Abstract: —In this paper, we design and simulate the graphene based metamaterial absorber (MMA) based on dual-ring structure at terahertz frequencies using HFSS software. The obtained results are validated by employing an equivalent circuit model. The unit cell of proposed MMA consists of dual metallic rings coupled with graphene, and are insulated by SiO2 from the ground metallic plane. The dual ring MMA structure demonstrates perfect absorption at 1.6 and 2.89 THz for a Fermi energy of 0.2 eV. A complementary MMA has also been demonstrated with one more absorption peak for potential applications in terahertz imaging, detection, and sensing.
