Abstract:
Electrical discharge machining (EDM)is the most dominant innovation in the field of non-traditional
machining for the processing of difficult-to-machine materials. This practice considerably improves
the machining characteristics by increasing material removal rate, surface hardness together with the
reduced surface roughness and tool wear rate. In the present study, one-variable-at-a-time (OVAT)
approach was employed to investigate the input machining parameters for H13 steel with copper tool.
The effectiveness of input parameters evaluated in terms of material removal rate (MRR), tool wear
rate (TWR) and surface roughness(SR), opted as output responses. It was observed experimentally
that discharge current 9 A, pulse-on duration 250 μs and spark gap voltage of 50 V notably influence
the machining characteristics of H13 steel with copper tool.
